St. Peter’s CE Primary School – Case Study

Posted on

Introduction

At the end of the year I would be retiring after 20 years as Headteacher at St Peter’s CE School. I knew this could be a challenging experience for the whole school community.

I wanted to provide wellbeing support for myself and to my staff to help us deal with the changes that were imminent.

Challenges

As a Headteacher the demands on you and your staff are relentless. With falling rolls, recruitment challenges, an increase in complex needs, and lack of time, to name a few, the pressure is constant. Add to it your busy personal and family life, it is challenging to stay motivated and enjoy your job.

I wanted my staff to be able to navigate these stresses with confidence and resourcefulness.

Outcomes

As Head it is important to promote wellbeing and a good work life balance and it starts from the top. I chose to work with Wellbeing for Education and implement wellbeing coaching for myself and all my staff to access.

I wanted to create sustainable, positive health and wellbeing practices. I knew this would enable them to be resilient and empower them to take ownership of their wellbeing which in turn would have a positive impact on the school.

The sessions were flexible and convenient as staff could talk to an experienced and qualified coach within 72 hours of booking a session, at a time that suited them. This enabled staff to be proactive in getting personalised support when they needed it and made a huge difference in releasing pressures and allowed them to be more focused and productive.
